Westfordians Steal The Show At Mahe Carnival 22’

Partaking in extracurricular activities is an integral part of university life experience. In the spirit of demonstrating our cultural richness and showcasing the immense talent that we harbour;

Westford University College students represented the institution at the inter-university cultural fest – Carnival 22’ hosted by Manipal University, Dubai. Westford’s Dance, Music, and Fashion clubs took to the stage and put up a tough fight with competing universities, at the event.

Their dedication and hard work won them first place in the Eastern dance competition category and second place in the ‘Battle of the bands’ category in music.

DANCE

The Westford Dance Club’s incredible performances lit up the venue. The students participated in Eastern and Western competitions. While the theme of the western dance competition was based on the Hollywood movie ‘Batman’, the eastern competition was about women’s empowerment. The students’ attire reflected their themes.

Their elegant and graceful performance won the hearts of the judges and first place in the Eastern dance competition.

The students of Westford Dance Club prepared for this challenge in a short period of time. They showed amazing dedication by practicing every day, including weekends. As the saying goes “you will always succeed if you put your heart and soul into it.”

MUSIC

The students of the Westford Music club took part in the ‘Battle of the bands’ event at the competition. Excelling at the judging criteria by acing the vocals, instrumentation, rhythm, and stage presence, the band secured 2nd place! The band had an amazing time on stage; the audience and judges loved the overall performance. The music club looks forward to winning more competitions, in addition to hosting one, sometime in the future.

The Fashion students had an amazing experience participating in the fashion competition and it was an incredible opportunity to showcase our designs to a large audience. The students had chosen the Arabian night and managed to pull up a fantastic show witheach student assisting one another with different garments and props.

The preparation for the show was intense. models had practiced walking the runway numerous times to perfect stride and facial expressions. The day of the show was both exciting and nerve-wracking. The students were thrilled to see their designs come to life on the stage.

The show was a success, and our students gained a lot of confidence in their abilities as a designer. Now having a newfound respect for the fashion show and the work involved in running these events. Congratulations to all participating students, Westford is proud of each and every one of its rising stars.

I joined Westford back in January 2022 and that has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Why you ask? Well because I’ve always been passionate about dancing and little did, I know that Westford would provide me with a platform for the same to showcase my talent. Being part of the team and representing Westford has always been a proud feeling. Participating in MAHE carnival was not any different where I participated in both Eastern and Western dance category and secured the 1st price in the eastern category. It was a proud feeling for me, and the entire team and I look forward to winning more competitions like these in the future.

I couldn’t be any prouder of myself for taking part in the MAHE eastern dance competition. Playing the role of Mahakhali was no easy task but with the support of my team and encouragement from the faculty, I was able to do the dance with ease. To win the competition was a cherry on top and I want to thank Westford for giving us students the opportunity to participate in such competitions!
