Breast Cancer today

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Although it mainly aects women, it can also be developed by men. According to the World Health Organization, over half a million women died due to breast cancer in 2012 (Global Health Estimates, WHO 2013).
In the eort to increase awareness amongst students & sta, Westford arranged free checkups for sta and students in partnership with Aster Clinics and a set of exciting competitions were organized for students.
The introduction of Westford’s Music band was one of the main highlights of the day. Dressed in pink, the campus was bustling with spirit of spreading awareness.
A poster making competition showcasing the dierent aspects of the awareness campaign, and a tie-dye competition challenging the creativity of students in designing bags & masks. To top it up our representative Doctor from Aster Clinics, presented some important facts of detecting breast cancer early. The checkups included some essential questions, and tips for sta members & students giving importance of regular self-checks; and being able to identify abnormalities. A day filled with lots of valuable information and awareness!

ver 70 students attended the Breast Cancer Awareness program – Pinktober, which was hosted by Westford University College at Al Zahia Campus. Considering the theme of the month, students and sta members were requested to arrive for the event in hues of pink.
While the students and sta members rocked pink outfits, the campus was also decorated to match the
pink theme. Everybody was encouraged to participate in various activities that included competitions for students; a breast cancer screening session, a presentation from the doctor – discussing Breast Cancer; music performances; poetry recitation, rae draw, awards distribution ceremony and much more!.
Being one of the first events to have taken place since the resumption of on-site classes, the event also served as a platform for the debut of many of our talented students who have become the latest addition to Westford’s very own music club.
