In the holy month of Ramadan, Westford’s initiative WeCares, in collaboration with AIESEC and UAE Relief initiated the volunteering campaign Ramadan Blessings to provide medical kits and food items to labour camps in Sharjah and Dubai. In a heartwarming display of unity and compassion, student volunteers from the Westford Community joined this campaign. This event not only provided much-needed assistance to those in need but also fostered a sense of togetherness and support among Westfordians.
On 23rd March 2024, at Westford University College, amidst the unforeseen weather conditions the morning of the event, volunteers gathered in large numbers ready to accomplish the many tasks set for the day. For approximately 6 hours, student volunteers spent the day sorting through the multiple food items and hygiene supplies, every box was meticulously packed with care and consideration, coordinating back and forth from loading docks to carry the packages into the university, arranging these products into boxes and hand-delivering them to the labour camps.
The day was fraught with a few challenges and drawbacks, which the student leaders for this campaign easily surmounted and proceeded to manage the event in an organised manner. As the day proceeded, volunteers worked together, sharing accounts, laughing, and support while lovingly packing each box. For many, it was a humbling event, a reminder of the strength of community and the effect of simple acts of kindness.
The campaign was a huge success, owing to the instructors, student leaders, and volunteers’ steadfast commitment and compassion. Their selflessness has had a concrete impact on the lives of others, setting a bright example of the power of kindness and teamwork.
I was honoured to be a part of the Ramadan Blessings Campaign since it was a fulfilling experience. It is comforting to know that our efforts would offer comfort and solace to those who need it the most. Seeing the influence, we might have as a community was extremely encouraging.
