Fashion department of Westford University College recently hosted a highly engaging and insightful fashion styling workshop conducted by the esteemed Ms. Preethi S. With her extensive experience in collaborating on various fashion weeks, web series, editorials, and expertly styling models, Ms. Preethi brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the event. The workshop began with a thorough introduction to Fashion Styling, defined as “the art of combining clothes, accessories, hairstyle, and makeup to create a visually appealing and well-defined fashion style or combination of styles.” Ms. Preethi underlined that fashion styling is more than just dressing well; it’s about creating a coherent appearance that tells a story and captures the essence of a notion.
One of the key topics covered was the role of a Fashion Stylist. Fashion stylists are the vital link between concept, design, presentation, and the finished product, as put together in the form of outfits and accessories. They must have an excellent knowledge of classic fashion styles, historical, cultural, and socio-economic trends, clothing design, photography, marketing, makeup, and hairstyle trends. The workshop highlighted that a fashion stylist’s work begins with understanding the client’s needs, context, occasion, thematic background, season, and budget. The workshop provided hands-on learning opportunities for aspiring fashion designers, who practiced creating mood boards and explored the process of curating looks that align with a given concept. The session shared insights into the various job opportunities within fashion styling and decoded the concepts behind famous shoots done by industry experts.
The workshop was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue their passion for fashion styling. Westford University College provides its students with opportunities to learn from industry experts, ensuring they are well-equipped to succeed in their careers. By fostering an environment that encourages continuous learning and development, Westford is pivotal in helping students unlock their full potential and achieve their dreams in the fashion industry.
The session was excellent, and I learned about all aspects of fashion styling, including how the work is done and the entire process from concept to final look. The workshop was interactive, and we also created mood boards. I want to thank our teachers and Ms. Preethi for organizing such a lovely session.
